James Hedges was born in New York in 1921. In Rye his family lived on Summit Ave. James served as an officer in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Rye Men Commissioned Ensigns

Three Rye men were commissioned ensigns in the United States Naval Reserve when they graduated recently from the Naval Reserve Midshipmens School at Abbott Hall, Northwestern University, Chicago, 111. The graduates, who will now be assigned to duty with the fleet as deck officers, are; William H. Todd, 21, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Todd, Club Road; John L. Bramkamp, 20, son of Mr. and Mrs. J, K. Aimer, 22 Sussex Gardens; James Hedges, 23, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Hedge, Summit Avenue.

James Hedges Dies

James Hedges 41 of Arcadia Cal and a former resident of Landgrove died suddenly in Peru on Saturday where he was visiting relatives While living in Landgrove he had served as selectman and road commissioner.

Born May 16 1921 In New York City he was the son of James S and Helen (Kellogg) Hedges He was a graduate of Bowdoin College and a member of Psi Epsilon fraternity He was a member of St Luke's Episcopal Church of Monrovia Cal and a veteran of Wofld War II serving in the Navy He was employed by the Mutual Benefit Insurance Co of New Jersey with an office in lxs Angeles Cal.

He is survived by his parents of Rye N Y his wife Mrs Barbara Hedges three sons Scott James and Michael and two daughters Nancy and Sally all of Arcadia The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon in the Methodist Church in Landgrove The Rev Robert L Clayton Rector of Zion Episcopal Church in Manchester Center officiated Burial was in the Landgrove Cemetery
